Inclusive Photography Posing Tips For Couples With Height Differences

In our home, there’s a silly thought that we always come back to. It’s about the time Samantha and I first met.

Both of our first thoughts were “oh they’re short” and “oh they’re tall.” We joke that my online profile featured all the photo tricks that certainly made me look a few inches taller than my actual 5 foot stature. It all worked out so, no harm no foul!

I know you’re all asking “So how’d you do it Jas? And how do you both continue to look so beautiful together in all of your photos?”

Well because you asked so nice and sweetly, I’m here to dish out all my best photography posing tips when it comes to height differences!

Find Common Ground

At Jas K Productions, we are true romantics who embrace love in all its varieties. And we love to celebrate your uniqueness and help you transcend the “rules of gender.” However, we know that there is power in feeling affirmed in your identity. Being able to see and feel like your true self via your photo experience is our top priority.

With those intentions in mind, you probably won’t regret getting your face up close to your partner’s for a few pics. Close the gap by finding common ground either through sitting, hopping up on a rock, or wearing some cool platform shoes!

Try Another Angle

Sometimes it feels a bit farfetched that it’s really the angle of a photo or a specific lens that makes the photo great. But the composition can actually take an okay photo to the next level. In this case, we want to try a few lower angle perspectives. Get low and use the sky as your backdrop. In my opinion, these type of artful photos round out a diverse portrait gallery.

If you have a wide angle lens, this will also help from a lower angle. At the right angle this will create a look that slightly warps the top and bottom of your body to appear longer. This can be overdone so be sure to experiment with the angles and poses that work best for you.

work up a sweat For The Grand Finale

Now that you’re a pro, it’s time to have some fun! We’re going to jump. Really. I promise you won’t look silly. Or maybe you might. But that’s the best part!

Pickup your boo and spin them around. Have them hop on your back or fall into your arms from higher ground. Froclick and fall (safely) onto the ground and lay your heads together, so height has no factor here! Show off your personality and just think about some poses that feel natural to your authentic selves.

I’m so excited to continue sharing more tips that I’ve learned along my journey as an inclusive Denver photographer. Let me know what other photography tips you might benefit from or if you have any that the community could benefit from!
